We are up early again today. We meet for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Before we start our first major stage at noon today, we want to visit some of our projects in Banan. First, we go to the Banan elementary school, which we equipped with a WASH (water/sanitation/hygiene) system in 2013 with and for the Rotary Club Willich. The Fundriders are completely thrilled and impressed. The children play boisterously with us and are happy that they now have proper toilets and no longer have to go behind the school. In addition, each classroom has its own supply of filtered drinking water and a hand washing station. Our WASH projects are extremely effective, and every one of the Fundriders says it is one of the most interesting things they have ever seen – a cool compliment to the project.
From there, we head straight to our village, Chy Hong II. We built this village with 58 previously homeless families. Here, too, the Fundriders can't stop marveling at what they see. To cool off, we visit a temple in the middle of a mined mountain, where you can be absolutely sure you won't encounter any other tourists 🙂 ... but we promised that in advance.
Now quickly back to Battambang, lunch, and off we go on the first stage: around 110 km towards Pursat in central Cambodia. The new Honda scooters are running great and the participants are all getting along very well with them. After 2-3 hours on National Road N5, the 3 groups we formed from the 11 participants arrive. Everyone is safe and sound and totally proud, because thanks to their commitment and the almost €40/km offered by the sponsors, we have already raised over €5,000 to date!
