Another day in paradise won't bring in any sponsorship money, so we leave the island in the morning on a boat we've rented ourselves, as we still have a sporty 267 kilometers of beautiful driving ahead of us today and the regular boat doesn't leave until the afternoon. The road from Koh Kong to Kep, on the south coast of Cambodia, is not very busy and winds its way through beautiful countryside to the Kampot region.

Once we arrive in Kep, we check into our accommodation. The famous Kampot pepper is produced right next door. After a half-hour guided tour, we are now certified pepper experts. Here are a few fun facts for nerds:
• Green, red, black, and white pepper all come from ONE plant
• When 20% of the fruit is ripe (red), the pepper is harvested
• The green pepper is then dried and turns black
• White pepper is peeled red pepper
• Fresh green pepper tastes great with crab and fish dishes 

Afterwards, we take a stroll through the crab market in Kep. Here, we discover interesting professions that we had never heard of before: swimming coaches for baby sharks, crab halvers, and squid turners. Speaking of "turning inside out": this is definitely a market that didn't turn our stomachs (as some other places have). Great atmosphere, pleasant smells, and fish dishes that couldn't be any fresher – wonderful!
