Yesterday morning there was a violent thunderstorm in Viengthon. This delayed our departure by about an hour. When the rain subsided, we filled up with gas and set off for Kong Lor Cave. The sky was still covered with dark clouds and we were afraid of getting wet on the way. But we were lucky!
The first part of the route was on well-paved roads, first over the Namkading and later over the Nam Ngouang River. Here we made a short stop to look at the small but special boats. They were made from cut-open metal airplane tanks. Necessity is the mother of invention.
As we continued along the route, the roads became worse and the villages visibly poorer. There were no more brick houses here, but wooden huts, some of them dilapidated but still inhabited.
We encountered many children who waved at us or even high-fived us as we drove by. We prepared our lunch on a wide red road and enjoyed sandwiches while the locals passing by looked on in amazement.
The last part of the journey was a little bumpier again until we arrived at our accommodation, the Spring River Resort, at the end of a valley. A little paradise run by a Swiss man.
During dinner, we received the first pictures from the construction site of our aid project, the home for disabled people. We are confident that the accommodation for the men will actually be finished by the time we return to Vientiane.
