Characteristics
Hello,
My name is Margarethe Martini. At the start of the tour, I will be 73 years old and have been retired for some time.
14 years ago, we decided to take a trip to Asia to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. As backpackers, we set off for Vietnam and Cambodia. We enjoyed the trip in a relaxed way until we encountered the impacts of the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia. After learning the full history of how the Cambodian people were oppressed, displaced, and murdered, we visited several places—the story of the Killing Fields and also the orphanages. In Angkor Wat, we witnessed how eager the children were to learn and how they absorbed everything related to education. We also saw the often terrible living conditions at the Tonle Sap Lake, where people struggle to survive.
Back in Germany, it was clear—we wanted to help. We started searching for ways to do so and found an organization called “Kleine Hilfsaktion” in Neuss, just 15 kilometers away. Without hesitation, my family and I became members of “Kleine Hilfsaktion.”
Cambodia never left our hearts, and we returned a little later to see some of the projects that had been extremely well-received. Our thanks go to Mr. Bong for this. Now, I am here looking for sponsors because these projects also require funding. The fundraising tour is the perfect way to raise a lot of money for these causes. We will be riding about 1,500 kilometers on scooters, traveling across Cambodia to visit several projects and schools. Everyone should donate from one cent to 100 cents for every kilometer we ride. Every cent counts.
This is where all my friends, acquaintances, and sponsors come into play. It would be amazing if everyone supported me. I will, of course, cover all other expenses myself.
