As a journalist, I’ve traveled the world a lot. Most of the time it was about space travel. I observed the first West German astronauts during their training for the manned Space Shuttle flights and was present at some launches at Cape Canaveral or in the then still Soviet Baikonur. I was also in Kourou, the launch site of the European launcher Ariane in Franz. Guyana, when earth observation or weather satellites were transported into space. It was always important for me to question what these missions could do to improve people’s living conditions and to protect the environment and climate.

The Fundriding tour through Cambodia now offers me a completely different and for me new view of things. While space travel with its satellites is moving away from the earth allows for a better overview for information retrieval, now I will be able to look at people’s problems with a magnifying glass. In a country that is still burdened by the shadows of a difficult past. Children and young people in rural areas often lack the simplest conditions for a promising future. That must and should change. The projects of Kleine Hilfsaktion e.V. have already achieved a lot on the ground with their diverse activities. Clean drinking water and toilets in the schools, help for the elderly, the disabled and the sick. You as my sponsors can help with your donations that the teams can continue and new projects are led to success.

As your satellite, I convince myself that the help also reaches the people. Of course, I pay all costs for my trip out of my own pocket. Like all my comrades-in-arms who will go on the scooter tour through Cambodia. I am looking forward to the group and am sure that with all seriousness of the topic the fun will not come too short. Not a usual holiday, but an experience that leads us out of our supposedly safe and protected world in Europe.

Steckbrief

Als Journalist bin ich schon viel herumgekommen in der Welt. Meist ging es um das Thema Raumfahrt. Ich habe die ersten westdeutschen Astronauten bei ihrem Training für die bemannten Space Shuttle-Flüge beobachtet und war bei einigen Starts am Cape Canaveral oder im damals noch sowjetischen Baikonur dabei. Häufig war ich auch in Kourou, dem Startplatz der europäischen Trägerrakete Ariane in Franz. Guayana, wenn Erdbeobachtungs- oder Wettersatelliten ins All befördert wurden. Dabei war es mir immer wichtig zu hinterfragen, was diese Missionen zur Verbesserung der Lebensbedingungen der Menschen und für den Schutz von Umwelt und Klima beitragen können.

Die Fundriding-Tour durch Kambodscha bietet mir nun eine völlig andere und für mich neue Sicht der Dinge. Während die Raumfahrt mit ihren Satelliten sich von der Erde entfernt, um für die Informationsgewinnung einen besseren Überblick zu haben, werde ich quasi mit der Lupe auf die Probleme der Menschen schauen können. In einem Land, auf dem immer noch die Schatten einer schwierigen Vergangenheit lasten. Gerade für Kinder und Jugendliche auf dem Land  fehlt es oft an den einfachsten Bedingungen für eine hoffnungsvolle Zukunft. Das muss und soll sich ändern. Die Projekte von Kleine Hilfsaktion e.V. haben mit den vielfältigen Aktionen schon vieles vor Ort bewirkt. Sauberes Trinkwasser und Toiletten in den Schulen, Hilfe für Alte, Behinderte und Kranke. Ihr als meine Sponsoren könnt mit euren Spenden mithelfen, dass die Teams weitermachen können und neue Projekte zum Erfolg geführt werden.

Als euer Satellit überzeuge ich mich davon, dass die Hilfe auch bei den Menschen ankommt. Selbstverständlich zahle ich alle Kosten, die für meine Reise anfallen, aus eigener Tasche. Wie alle meine Mitstreiter, die auf die Roller-Tour durch Kambodscha gehen werden. Ich freue mich auf die Truppe und bin sicher, dass bei aller Ernsthaftigkeit des Themas der Spaß nicht zu kurz kommen wird. Kein üblicher Urlaub, sondern ein Erlebnis, dass uns rausführt aus unserer vermeintlich sicheren und behüteten Welt in Europa.
